
Nagai Paces Pirates in Round One at Mountaineer

BRIDGEPORT, W.VA. – Senior Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) shot a 2-over-par, 74, in the first round to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team in round one of the 2018 Mountaineer Intercollegiate.

Nagai and the rest of the Pirates got through most of the second round, but it was halted due to darkness. Tomorrow, the field will complete the second round before finishing the tournament with round three.

Nagai used 15 pars to fuel his strong round, and was tied for 17th among 78 individual golfers following round one. Winthrop's Sawyer Mills was the individual leader after round one after a 4-under-par, 68.

Collectively, the Pirates shot a 17-over-par, 305, in round one, and trailed the team leader and host, West Virginia by 16 strokes entering round two. Two other BIG EAST teams are in the field and also struggled in round one. Georgetown is four strokes behind the Pirates in 10th place, while St. John's trails Seton Hall by 14 strokes and is in 13th place.

Freshman Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) rode birdies on holes No. 3 and No. 7 to a 4-over-par, 76. He is tied for 22nd place through one round.Â

Both sophomore Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) and freshman Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.), competing as an individual, were tied for 32nd place with a 5-over-par, 77.Â

Senior Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) was tied for 37th place following a 6-over-par, 78.

Finally, sophomore Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) rounded out the Pirates' team scoring with a 9-over-par, 81, on Monday.

In addition to Seton Hall and host West Virginia, the field includes 12 other schools: Akron, Boston College, Bowling Green State, Davidson, Eastern Kentucky, James Madison, Marshall, Ohio, Rutgers and Winthrop. BIG EAST foes Georgetown and St. John's are also members of the field.

The field will play two continuous rounds (36 holes) beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Akron and Boston College for the first two rounds. On Tuesday, a single final round will be played with tee times starting at 8:00 a.m. Pairings will be determined by the results of the first two rounds.
