Fairfax, Va. – Senior Dakota Williams (Noank, Conn.) swam a meet-record 44.75 and won the 100 free as the Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team finished fourth out of eight teams at the 2018 Patriot Invitational at George Mason.

In the 200 free relay, junior Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.), freshman Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.), junior Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) and Williams finished sixth with a time of 1:23.74. Gibson, senior Lior Grubert (Yehud-Monosson, Israel), freshman Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.), and freshman Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) took second in the 800 free relay after swimming a 6:46.88.

Gibson and Smith also finished fourth and fifth in the 500 free with respective times of 4:33.82 and 4:34.79.

In the 200 IM, senior Lior Grubert (Yehud-Monosson, Israel) took fifth after swimming a 1:52.93, and freshman Kyle Haflich (Fishers, Ind.) swam a 1:53.96 to finish 11th. Grubert later won the 400 IM with a time of 3:59.74, while Gibson placed fifth after touching in 4:05.72, and Smith took seventh (4:06.50).

Williams finished fourth in the 50 free with a time of 20.75, while junior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) took seventh in the 1-meter dive after scoring 217.25.

The foursome of Puglessi, junior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.), sophomore Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) and Williams placed fifth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:22.21.

In the 100 fly, Cosgrove, senior Kyle Nash (Katy, Texas), and Puglessi finished ninth, 11th and 12th with respective times of 50.03, 50.37 and 50.48. In the 200 fly, Nash, Cosgrove and Puglessi finished 5-6-7 with respective times of 1:50.89, 1:51.50 and 1:52.03.

LaClair finished fifth in both the 200 free (1:41.59) and the mile (16:01.92). Tosoni took fourth in the 100 breast with a time of 55.58, and second in the 200 breast (2:02.39).

Looking ahead, the Pirates return to action on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Yale at 1 p.m. before returning home on Jan. 13 to take on Fairfield at 3 p.m. inside Richie Regan Rec Center.
