South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team dropped a road meet at Yale on Saturday, 191-97, before rounding out the weekend with a decisive 186-96 triumph over Fairfield on Sunday inside the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium.
In Sunday's win against Fairfield, 10 different Pirates registered an individual event victory and two relays finished ahead of the field. Sophomore Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) picked up wins in the 100 back (51.97) and 200 back (1:55.56), and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay that registered a time of 1:33.38.
Against Yale on Saturday, freshman Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.) finished second in the 100 back with a time of 51.86, and third in the 100 fly after swimming a 51.37. Senior Dakota Williams (Noank, Conn.) took third in the 50 free (21.12) and second in the 100 free (46.94).
Continuing his impressive start to the 2018-19 campaign, junior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) won both the 100 breast (57.08) and 200 breast (2:04.64). Junior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) swept the men's dives with a score of 248.69 in the 1-meter and 261.38 mark in the 3-meter.
Freshman Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) picked up a third-place finish in the 500 free after posting a time of 4:45.31. In the 200 IM, senior Lior Grubert (Yehud-Monosson, Israel) took third with a time of 1:57.78, and Tosoni finished fifth after swimming a 1:59.50.
"Both the men and the women responded with great swims today against Fairfield," said head coach Derek Sapp. "Coming off of our training trip, everyone has been working very hard and it definitely showed today. Competing in back-to-back meets is very difficult, but it is something that helps us prepare for a multi-ay meet like the BIG EAST Championship."
Looking ahead, the Pirates will take on Monmouth in a dual meet on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 4 p.m. in West Long Branch.
