South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's swimming & diving team won nine different events en route to a thrilling 162.5-134.5 victory on Friends, Family & Alumni Day inside Richie Regan Rec Center on Saturday afternoon.
Late in the meet the Pirates picked up a dagger performance in the 100 fly where freshman Ben Puglessi (Ada, Mich.), senior Kyle Nash (Katy, Texas) and sophomore Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) went one-two-three to virtually seal a team victory.
Earlier, in the 50 free, senior Dakota Williams (Noank, Conn.) and junior Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.) finished second and third with respective times of 20.94 and 21.44. For Hendrix, it was his first meet as a Pirate after transferring from Kentucky and sitting out the first handful of meets this season. He also took third in the 100 free (47.48).
Freshman Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) tied for second in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.36.
In the 200 back, junior Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.) finished with a time of 2:05.81, exactly four full seconds ahead of the field. He also won the 100 breast after clocking in at 56.77.
Up next, the Pirates will conclude their competition this fall at the Patriot Invitational hosted by George Mason in Fairfax, Va. Nov. 15-17.
Prior to Saturday's meet, Seton Hall honored the late Maran Lougheed '02, a Pirate swimming alum, who tragically passed away this summer. Pirate Blue Athletic Fund has announced the university will be launching a scholarship named to honor her memory, and the wonderful person and mother she was.
