2/24/2018 4:15:00 PM | Men's Basketball
NEW YORK - Senior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 22 points, sophomore Myles Powell had 18 points, and senior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) recorded his 70th career double-double as the Seton Hall men's basketball team picked up a huge road win, defeating St. John's, 81-74, in overtime Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Seton Hall (20-9, 9-7 BIG EAST) earned its fourth BIG EAST road win of the season and has now won three straight games overall. The Pirates have reached 20 wins for the third consecutive season and have clinched at least a .500 record in the BIG EAST for a third straight year, which has not occurred for the program since 1991-93.
Carrington finished the game 7-of-16 from the field, 2-of-5 from three and 6-of-7 at the free throw line to account for his 22 points. He also had six rebounds and four assists. In addition to his 18 points, Powell posted career highs in rebounds (eight) and assists (six). Delgado was 7-for-9 from the field and finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Two other Pirates finished in double figure scoring as senior Ismael Sanogo (Newark, N.J.) had 10 points and  six rebounds, and freshman Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.), making his first collegiate start, scored 10 points on 4-of-6 from the field.

Turning Point
Neither team led by more than seven points in this classic BIG EAST contest that featured 15 ties and seven lead changes. The Pirates went into halftime leading 38-34. In the second half, Seton Hall fell behind by five, 52-47, with 13:04 to go, but freshman Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) hit a huge three-pointer at the top of the key to answer. Then after a St. John's missed three, Powell picked up a long rebound and went on the fast break to tie the game with a layup.
Two possessions later, Powell banked home a three on a pass from Mamukelashvili to put the Hall back on top, 55-52, with 10:35 to go.Â
Seton Hall got the lead back up to five, but St. John's fought back at the end of regulation as Shamorie Ponds scored six points in the final 4:30, including the tying free throws with 16 seconds remaining. Powell's three-point attempt to win it missed.
In overtime, Delgado got The Hall going with back-to-back layups. After giving up one jumper to Ponds, the Pirates locked in on defense, not allowing the Red Storm to make a field goal in the final 4:20 (0-for-7). The Pirates did their job at the free throw line, going 5-for-6. Carrington then put the icing on the cake, grabbing a long rebound off a missed three and dunking it home to give Seton Hall the 81-74 victory.
