Wichita, Kan. - The 2017-18 Seton Hall men's basketball team did not back down in its NCAA Tournament second round matchup against No. 4 ranked Kansas in front of a hostile INTRUST Bank Arena crowd of over 15,000. Although the top-seeded Jayhawks prevailed, 83-79 Saturday evening, the No. 8 seeded Pirates gave everything they had and sent off their four seniors with their heads held high.
Senior Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) produced the NCAA Tournament's first 20-20 game since 2012 with 24 points, a career-high 23 rebounds as well as five assists. The 23 rebounds are tied for third-most in an NCAA Tournament game since the creation of NCAA Div. I, II and III in 1973 with the top two performances both coming in the 1970s. Senior Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.), the program's ninth all-time leading scorer produced one last 20-point effort, dropping 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field with five three-pointers. Senior Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) had six points, and senior Ismael Sanogo (Newark, N.J.) had five rebounds.
Seton Hall (22-12) concludes the 2017-18 season with its first NCAA Tournament victory since 2004, a third straight 20-win season and a third straight winning BIG EAST season.

Turning Point
A 16-5 run mid first half gave the Pirates a 24-20 lead over the Jayhawks with 4:44 remaining on the clock, but Kansas ended the half on an 11-2 run with Malik Newman burying a three with six seconds left to send the Jayhawks into halftime up 31-26.
Kansas extended that lead to 13 with 12:20 remaining in the game after Lagerald Vick knocked down a triple to make it 52-39. But The Hall, gritty as it has been for so long, battled back with Carrington and Delgado carrying the load. Carrington stopped Kansas' run with a three-pointer coming off Delgado's pass and he hit another one a minute later again from Delgado. Kansas kept answering with buckets until The Hall finally got stops on five of six possessions and Delgado came up with a huge offensive rebound and put-back to get the deficit to seven, 61-54, with 5:44 to go.
Newman put Kansas back up nine before Delgado had a great move on his defender at the free throw line and threw down a ferocious dunk. After a Kansas miss, sophomore Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) buried a three-pointer, again off a Delgado kick-out pass, to close to within four, 63-59.
Kansas kept fighting as Newman hit another three before Powell answered with one of his own. It was a five-point game with 1:39 to go when Kansas came up with a steal, and Svi Mykhailiuk hit a dagger three from the wing to put the Jayhawks up eight, 71-63.
Carrington scored Seton Hall's next 13 points with the Pirates also fouling to extend the game, but Kansas made its free throws down the stretch, going 10-for-10 in the final minute.
