South Orange, N.J. - Last week's seventh annual Donor Matching Day, which rallies Seton Hall alumni, fans, faculty and staff together in support of Pirates student-athletes and in conjunction with Seton Hall Giving Day, was another superb success in helping raise funds that go towards the student-athlete experience. With hundreds of gifts and pledges, a successful 50-state challenge and men's basketball head coach Kevin Willard matching all gifts that came in by 30 percent, the Pirate Blue Athletic fund received over $175,000.
The 50-state challenge once again brought #PirateBlueNation together as Seton Hall supporters across the country gave in support of the Pirates. Once Pirate Blue secured the final state, Mississippi, in the 6 p.m., hour, the successful challenge triggered a $50,000 gift from an anonymous donor. In addition, Pirate Blue receive gifts from countries abroad, including The Netherlands, Japan and the Philippines.Â
Willard, who just completed his eighth year at the helm of the men's basketball team with three straight 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament appearances under his belt, has generously matched Donor Matching Day gifts for three straight years, helping set the tone for a special giving day.
The Pirate Blue Athletic Fund directly supports the Seton Hall Department of Athletics and its student-athletes. Pirate Blue strives to embrace and engage the most dedicated Pirate fans within the Seton Hall community to further promote the passion and camaraderie that makes the University so unique. Donor Matching Day is not the only day you can donate; you can make a tax-deductible contribution and join Pirate Blue today and any day of the year by calling 973-275-6447 or visiting PirateBlue.com.
