NEW YORK, N.Y. – Freshman Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.), senior Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) and sophomore Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) were named to the All-BIG EAST Team as announced by the conference on Thursday. Additionally, Kness was named Freshman of the Year.
Kness is the first in Seton Hall women's golf history to be named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year. Named BIG EAST Golfer of the Week on Oct. 19, she led the Pirates with a 75.27 stroke average, and ranked second in the conference. Last month, Kness was named Seton Hall's Freshman Female Student-Athlete of the Year and she broke the Pirate record for stroke average by a freshman by more than two full strokes. In the fall, she became only the sixth women's golfer at Seton Hall to win an individual title when she claimed the championship of the Brown Bear Invitational. Most recently, Kness tied for fourth place at the BIG EAST Championship, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
For the third straight year, Pantelas was named to an All-BIG EAST Team. The Pirate captain averaged a career-best 76.46 strokes per round in 2017-18, while recording four Top-10 finishes and a pair of Top-5 results. Pantelas tied Kness for fourth at the BIG EAST Championship two weeks ago, becoming the first Seton Hall women's golfer to be named to the All-Tournament Team three times. Pantelas' 13 career Top-10 finishes and 77.21 career stroke average both rank second-best in Seton Hall women's golf history.;
Win is named to the All-BIG EAST Team for a second straight year. The sophomore shaved nearly two full strokes off her average in her second year in South Orange, finishing with a team second-best 75.73 average, which also ranked fourth-best in the conference. Win had four Top-10 finishes and two Top-5 finishes, including a third place finish at the Brown Bear Invitational, which saw a career-best 1-over-par, 75-70-143. Win's stroke average this year breaks Ali Kruse's record for the lowest for a sophomore, and ranks second-lowest for any class only to Mia Kness this year.
