South Orange, N.J. – A total of 40 Seton Hall University student-athletes were inducted into the National College Athlete Honor Society, Chi Alpha Sigma, Tuesday as part of a ceremony in held in the Walsh Library Rotunda Room.
The impressive group of honorees joins over 200 Seton Hall student-athletes who have been inducted into the prestigious group since 2011. The Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society was founded at DePauw University in 1996 as a student-athlete honor society. Its purpose is to recognize high academic achievers and sport letter winners at the collegiate level.
In order to achieve the distinction, the student-athlete must hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher, have achieved at least junior academic standing and be of exceptional moral character.
The stated purposes of the organization are to:
Encourage and reward high academic scholarship of college athletes at four year accredited colleges.

To encourage good citizenship, moral character, and friendship among the high academic achievers in college athletics.
To recognize and honor the individual athlete, his/her team, sport, athletic department and university.
To mentor and provide leadership to other athletes.
In the Seton Hall Class of 2018, all 14 of the university's varsity programs were represented.
A leader among its peers in academic success, Seton Hall's excellence in the classroom is evidenced by the department's commitment to resources and the student-athletes' commitment to placing a high value on their education. Seton Hall supports its student-athletes with outstanding mentoring and tutoring, led by the Academic Support Services staff, and offers its student-athletes a state-of-the-art learning environment in the Charles W. Doehler Academic Center for Excellence, which was built less than four years ago and offers a main study area, group meeting spaces and private tutoring rooms.
