SYLVANIA, OHIO – Seton Hall's Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) has qualified to compete in her first-ever Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event. The rising junior played in a qualifier at Sylvania Country Club for the 2018 Marathon LPGA Classic on Monday, and received a sponsors invitation to compete in the marquee event by tournament director Judd Silverman.
Win will have plenty of familiar faces around her when she competes in her first LPGA event. In addition to the tournament being in her hometown of Sylvania, Ohio, Win's former teammate at St. Ursula Academy in Toledo, Pinya Pipatjarasgit, also received a sponsors invitation to compete. Additionally, as was the case during qualifying, Lizzie's father, Tom Win, will serve as her caddy.
"I am beyond excited for Lizzie and her family," said Seton Hall head coach Natalie Desjardins. "Having a chance to play at the highest stage of the game (LPGA) is something we dream of. I have no doubt that Lizzie will represent herself, the Win family and the Pirate family well. I can't wait to hear about her experience."
Presented by Owens Corning & Owens-Illinois, the 2018 Marathon LPGA Classic is one of the longest running events on the LPGA Tour. The Marathon Classic was founded in 1984 and has been played yearly, except in 1986 and 2011, in Sylvania, Ohio, Lizzie Win's hometown. The 2018 tournament will be played at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, July 12-15, and feature some of the top players in the world including Michelle Wie, Brooke Henderson and Hyo Joo Kim.
Win is coming off a strong sophomore campaign at Seton Hall and was named to the All-BIG EAST Team for a second straight year. She shaved nearly two full strokes off her average in her second year in South Orange, finishing with a team second-best 75.73 average, which also ranked fourth-best in the conference. Win had four Top-10 finishes and two Top-5 finishes, including a third place finish at the Brown Bear Invitational, which saw a career-best 1-over-par, 75-70-143. Win's stroke average last year broke Ali Kruse's record for the lowest for a sophomore, and ranks second-lowest for any class only to teammate Mia Kness, who set the record last year.
