SYLVANIA, OHIO – Seton Hall rising junior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) did not disappoint while playing in her first Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event this week. Win missed the cut at the 2018 Marathon Classic, but put together two strong rounds to show she belongs on the game's highest stage.
In Thursday's opening round at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Win's hometown of Sylvania, Ohio, the Pirate golfer was consistent throughout, shooting 2-over-par on both the front and back nines. The highlight of her round was a birdie on the par-3, 14th hole. Win finished her afternoon with a 4-over-par, 75, tied for 117th in the massive field of 140 golfers.
On Friday, Win looked every bit the LPGA pro, riding four birdies to an even-par, 71. Her front nine was an up-and-down affair including, three pars, three birdies and three bogeys to make the turn at even-par. On the back nine, Win birdied hole No. 14 for the second straight day, but bogeyed No. 15, her only blemish over her final 12 holes of the afternoon.
Win missed the cut by only four strokes, an impressive feat for an amateur playing in her first LPGA event. She finished with a 4-over-par, 75-71-146.
Win is coming off a strong sophomore campaign at Seton Hall and was named to the All-BIG EAST Team for a second straight year. She shaved nearly two full strokes off her average in her second year in South Orange, finishing with a team second-best 75.73 average, which also ranked fourth-best in the conference. Win had four Top-10 finishes and two Top-5 finishes, including a third place finish at the Brown Bear Invitational, which saw a career-best 1-over-par, 75-70-143. Win's stroke average last year broke Ali Kruse's record for the lowest for a sophomore, and ranks second-lowest for any class only to teammate Mia Kness, who set the record last year.
MURPHY FINISHES PLAY AT U.S. SENIOR OPEN
Prior to qualifying for the prestigious U.S. Women's Senior Open, Seton Hall assistant coach Debby Murphy hadn't played a full round since December. Despite the rust, Murphy performed admirably at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Ill. this week.
Murphy had 10 pars in the first round in route to an 8-over-par, 81. In round two, she had an 11-over-par, 84, but broke through in the birdie column with a bird on the par-5, second hole.
Murphy missed the cut by seven strokes, finishing the tournament with a 19-over-par, 81-84-165.
Murphy has served as an assistant coach for the Seton Hall women's golf team for six of the program's eight seasons, spanning two head coaches.
Murphy rejoined the Pirates prior to the start of the 2014-15 academic year and was instrumental in helping guide the team to their second straight BIG EAST Championship. Murphy's Pirates followed up that performance with their third straight title in 2016. For their coaching efforts, Murphy and then head coach Sara Doell were named BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year.

.@suaarrows grad @lizzie_win had her dad as her caddie on day 1 of the @MarathonLPGA Classic. They made some more memories and the two say they wouldn't have it any other way. @SHUWGolf pic.twitter.com/5WWZuWdvFb
