South Orange, N.J. - Junior Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) scored a game-high 17 points, and senior Romaro Gill (St. Thomas, Jamaica) produced his first career double-double as the No. 12 Seton Hall men's basketball team overcame a slow start to tame the Stony Brook Seawolves, 74-57, Saturday afternoon inside historic Walsh Gymnasium.
Four Pirates scored in double figures to overcome the injury of senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.), who exited the game early.
Turning Point
After trailing at halftime and being tied with 14:10 remaining in the second half, the Pirates finally took the lead for good when Mamukelashvili found Gill for a layup at 13:50 to put The Hall on top 44-42. The game was hovering around one or two possessions until senior Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, Conn.) connected on a three-pointer at 5:54 to make it a seven-point lead and answered a Seawolves bucket with a jumper of his own.
Sophomore Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.) then came up with a steal and got a reverse layup underneath to give The Hall a nine-point lead, 60-51, with 5:13 to go in the game. Gill punctuated things with a huge dunk at 4:17 to push the lead into double digits, and The Hall outlasted Stony Brook thereafter.
