NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seton Hall senior Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) was named BIG EAST Men's Golfer of the Week on Thursday.
Nagai fired a career-best 6-under-par, 66, in Monday's final round to lead the Pirates to a sixth place team finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate. Nagai was spectacular, compiling seven birdies, 10 pars and just one bogey in route to a 6-under-par, 66, which ties three former Seton Hall golfers for the third-lowest par-72 single-round score in Pirate history. With his final round performance, he vaulted up the leader board, tying for second place among 100 individual golfers with a 7-under-par, 71-72-66-209. Nagai finished just one stroke behind the individual champion, Loyola's Evan Brown.
It's Nagai's 11th career top-10 finish and sixth career top-5, which ranks ninth-most in Seton Hall history. Furthermore, his three-round total of 209 ranks sixth-lowest for a par-72 course for a Pirate.
Nagai and the rest of the Pirates will return to the links on Monday, April 1 for the first two of three rounds of golf at the Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash.
