
Pirates Take Down Defending BIG EAST Champs, 4-1

New Providence, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's tennis team came away with a massive 4-1 victory over defending BIG EAST Conference champion St. John's on Saturday afternoon at the Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness Center.
In doubles play, the No. 2 and No. 3 flights played hero, as senior Thandy Kangwa (Ft. Myers, Fla.) and junior Minja Gligic (Belgrade, Serbia) registered a 6-4 win at the second position, and juniors Melody Taal (Ede, Netherlands) and Michal Matson (Christchurch, New Zealand) picked up a 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot to clinch the doubles point.
Next, St. John's and reigning player of the year Jessica Livianu picked up a win at the top singles flight to even the match at 1-1. However, freshman Regina Pitts (Los Angeles, Calif.), Taal, and Gligic came away with clutch victories to seal the match.
The Pirates improve to 12-5, 5-1 BIG EAST, while St. John's falls to 9-5, 3-1 BIG EAST. It was Seton Hall's first win over St. John's in more than seven years.
Up next, Seton Hall takes on Sacred Heart on Senior Night on Sunday, March 31 at 5 p.m. Senior ceremonies will take place at approximately 4:45 p.m. The Pirates will then take on BIG EAST foe Villanova on Monday at 3 p.m. at Ivy Hill Tennis Courts.
