NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seniors Gen Nagai (Mandaue Cebu City, Philippines) and Chris Yeom (Flushing, N.Y.) were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team on Thursday.
After injuries slowed his 2017-18 campaign, Nagai burst back onto the conference scene this year and was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second time in his collegiate career. A participant in all 10 tournaments so far this year, he leads the team with a 72.13 spring stroke average.
Named BIG EAST Men's Golfer of the Week on Feb. 28, Nagai's 72.69 stroke average for the 2018-19 year was second-best on the Pirates, and ranked fourth in the BIG EAST Conference. He had a team-best four top-10 finishes to go with three top-5 finishes and had seven sub-par rounds. Nagai's tied for second with a 7-under-par, 71-72-66-209 at the Loyola Intercollegiate. His 6-under-par, 66, in the third round was a career-best and tied for the third-lowest score in Pirate history.
Yeom becomes only the second Pirate in history to be named an All-BIG EAST golfer three times. It's the second consecutive year being named to the First Team. Yeom played in nine tournament this year, and his 72.62 stroke average led Seton Hall and ranked third in the BIG EAST Conference.
Twice named BIG EAST Men's Golfer of the Week, Yeom set a Seton Hall record with an 8-under-par, 67-69-136 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational. The 136 is the lowest par-72, two-round score in Pirate history.
