Fouratt, Sager Named BIG EAST Women's Golfers of the Week

NEW YORK – Seton Hall sophomore Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) and senior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) were named BIG EAST Women's Golfers of the Week on Thursday.
Â
Typically the weekly honor goes to one individual, but Fouratt and Sager were equally dazzling last week and share the conference distinction this week.
Â
Fouratt, Sager and High Point's Samantha Vodry all tied as individual champions of the 2019 Nittany Lion Invitational over the weekend. Sager was dominant all tournament and was 5-under-par through the event's first two rounds. In Sunday's final round, she fired a 3-over-par, 75, to finish tied for first with a 2-under-par, 69-70-75-214. It was Sager's first-ever collegiate victory, and set a new career-best for the senior.Â
Â
Fouratt caught Sager on the tournament's final day, not because of poor Sager play, but because of her exceptional final round. The sophomore tied Seton Hall's par-72 single-round record with a 4-under-par, 68, on Sunday. Fouratt had only one blemish on an otherwise sparkling round three, a bogey on the par-4, No. 13 hole. She had five birdies and 12 pars to pull even with Sager and Vodry to claim a share of her first individual title.
Â
With their 214 scores for the tournament, Sager and Fouratt have set a new three-round, par-72 record low for Seton Hall. The previous record was a 216 set by Ali Kruse at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational in 2014.
Â
Fouratt, Sager and the rest of the Pirates will return to tournament action this weekend for two rounds of golf, Sept. 28-29, at the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.
