South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall Department of Athletics is launching SHE Can, a student-athlete development program aimed to support its female population with tailored professional development, mentorship opportunities, and networking events. Originally a once-a-year seminar, the department has transformed SHE Can into intentional, year-round programming that will build and cultivate a community of strong, empowered and successful women who can serve as role models for Seton Hall student-athletes.
"There is a true desire to learn more about the transition 'after athletics' and learning how to leverage those transferrable skills into the workforce," said Tatum Colitz, Seton Hall's Senior Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator. "We sought feedback from our current student-athletes, and our survey results indicated our young women are interested in forming authentic professional connections and networking with young alumnae. Once in-person visits are appropriate, we also hope to visit local female professionals in their respective workplace environments and provide a real-life connection, almost like an unofficial recruiting trip to the job market."
The newly formed SHE Can Committee includes a wide array of members across administration, staff, coaches, and student-athletes that will help lead the charge for programming topics like building soft skills, recognizing the impact of emotional intelligence in the workplace and cultivating one-on-one mentorships. Interacting with female professionals who have varying levels of experience will help guide student-athletes through an impressionable and transitional time in life and in their young careers. The hope is to create a platform that builds community within Seton Hall's department, campus, and global footprint.
The department invites alumnae, supporters of Seton Hall University and Seton Hall Athletics and all female professionals to join and help make an impact on female student-athletes. To get involved, or learn more please visit the official SHE Can page and subscribe to the monthly newsletter. Interested female professionals can volunteer by submitting the questionnaire found on the SHE Can webpage or by calling Mary Kate Walch at 973-761-9498.
