NEW YORK - Senior wing Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) of the Seton Hall men's basketball team has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after his breakout career-high 30-point performance in leading the Pirates to a 78-67 win over Georgetown.Â
Joining Cale in recognition this week is junior wing Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.), who made the BIG EAST Honor Roll after posting a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds, both career-high tying, and adding a career-high four assists in the Georgetown win.
Cale was dominant against the Hoyas, making 10 of 16 field goal attempts overall, going 5-for-9 from three-point range and hitting all five of his free throw attempts. He made his mark to open the second half with 17 points in the first 6:23 to help the Pirates extend their lead to 19. He connected on four consecutive three-point attempts during that span with the last one being a four-point play after getting fouled.
Cale, who is 11th in the BIG EAST in three-point shooting at 43.5 percent, has now made 12 of his last 18 three-point attempts (.667) and 19 of his last 36 (.528). He is now 71st all-time in Seton Hall scoring history with 799 career points.
Rhoden was solid on both ends of the floor against Georgetown over both halves, posting 14 points and seven rebounds in the first half and 12 points, five boards and three assists in the second half. His final basket of the evening stopped a Hoyas 9-0 run that allowed The Hall to comfortably close out the game.
Rhoden currently is 12th in the BIG EAST in scoring at 15.7 points per game, fourth in rebounding at 7.6 per game and ninth in free throw shooting at 80.8 percent.
Cale, Rhoden and the Pirates are 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST and will resume play after the holiday break Wednesday at Xavier at 7 p.m.Â
