
Kness, Ronchel Powering Pirates Through 2 Rounds at FAU

BOCA RATON, FLA. - Junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) is currently tied for the individual lead at 1-under-par and has guided the Seton Hall women's golf team to a 10-stroke team lead after two rounds of the 2020 FAU Winter Warm-Up.

Kness had four birdies in both rounds to fuel her strong play on Monday. She began the tournament with a 1-over-par, 73, in the morning, and shaved three strokes off in the afternoon to record a 2-under-par, 70. She enters Tuesday's final round tied for the individual lead with Yale's Ami Gianchandani with a 1-under-par, 73-70-143.

As a team, the Pirates have a commanding 10-stroke lead over second-place Arkansas State. Both of the Pirates' rounds on Monday led the field. The Hall is 8-over-par with a 291-293-584 entering Tuesday's final round. Seton Hall is also competing with a pair of BIG EAST competitors. Xavier is currently third at 24-over-par, while Butler is a distant 14th at 62-over-par.

Only one stroke behind the co-leaders is senior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain). The only player in the 81-golfer field at even-par, she finished her first round in style shooting 3-under-par over her final two holes, which included an eagle on her second-to-last hole. In the second round, she had three straight birdies on holes seven through nine to go with 13 pars. For the tournament, Ronchel Salas is even-par with a 73-71-144.

Senior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) was nearly perfect in the first round, using three birdies and 14 pars to power a 2-under-par, 70. After that round, she was the individual leader, but she struggled early in round two and ultimately settled with a 7-over-par, 79. Through two rounds, she's just outside the top-10, tied for 11th, with a 5-over-par, 70-79-149.

Senior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) has been largely consistent through two rounds so far in Boca Raton. She is currently tied for 27th place at 8-over-par with a 75-77-152.

Senior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) rounded out the Pirates' lineup on Monday. She shaved five strokes off her first round score in the afternoon and is currently tied for 43rd place with an 11-over-par, 80-75-155.
