
Acevedo Leads Pirates to Ninth Place Finish at UNCG

PALM CITY, FLA. – Junior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had a 3-over-par, 75, on Sunday to lead the Seton Hall men's golf team to a ninth-place finish at the 2020 UNCG/Martin Downs Collegiate.

Acevedo had two birdies and 12 pars in the final round, and was the top Pirate for the tournament tying for 29th place with a 2-over-par, 71-72-75-218. UNCG's Zack Swanson won the individual title with a remarkable 16-under-par, 200.

As a team, Seton Hall shot a 7-over-par, 295, in the final round on Sunday. For the three-day event, the Pirates finished ninth with a 12-over-par, 289-291-295-876. UNCG won the team title at 41-under-par. One BIG EAST competitor, Villanova, was also in the field. The Wildcats finished 14th at 52-over-par.

Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) used three birdies to shoot a 4-over-par, 76, on Sunday. For the tournament, he tied for 38th place with a 3-over-par, 71-72-76-219.

Senior Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) and sophomore Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) finished tied in the tournament at 6-over-par. Chalk finished the three-day event with a 2-over-par, 74, on the strength of four birdies, while Po was only 1-over-par in round three. For the tournament, Chalk had a consistent 6-over-par, 74-74-74-222, while Po carded a 73-76-73-222.

Junior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) had his best round of the tournament on Sunday, firing a 1-over-par, 73. For the tournament, he was 10-over-par with a 79-74-73-226.

Three additional Pirates also made the trip and competed as individuals. Freshman James Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) finished with a 10-over-par, 76-74-76-226. Sophomore Ian Lee (Johor, Malaysia) had a 12-over-par, 78-77-73-228, while Hunter Ramee (Warren, Conn.) had a 36-over-par, 81-85-86-

The course offers multiple sets of tees for all skill levels, including a driving range, practice facility, and putting green. Banyan Creek is surrounded by nature, not homes, which is why this course is a unique treasure for our golf community.

In addition to Seton Hall and UNC-Greensboro, the field included nine other schools:Â Bucknell, Holy Cross, James Madison, Lehigh, Old Dominion, Purdue Fort Wayne, Samford, South Dakota and BIG EAST foe Villanova.
