
Chalk, Acevedo Pacing Pirates at Loyola Intercollegiate

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Senior Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) fired a 2-under-par, 70, in Saturday's opening round and has paced the Seton Hall men's golf team to a tie for fourth place at the 2020 Loyola Intercollegiate.

Chalk was brilliant on Saturday despite significant rain and wind, using four birdies and an eagle to fuel his team-best round. He registered his eagle on the par-5, No. 12 hole. Currently, he is tied for fifth place among 112 individual golfers entering Sunday's second round.

As a team, the Pirates fired a 2-over-par, 290, and are tied for fourth place with the tournament host, Loyola (Md.). The Hall trails the team leader, Loyola Marymount, by only six strokes after 18 holes. Two other BIG EAST teams are in the field. The Hall leads Xavier by 11 strokes entering round two, and DePaul by 15 strokes.

Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) continued a strong start to his spring season with a 1-under-par, 71, in round one. He had four birdies to power his second sub-par round in four rounds this spring. After day one, he's tied for ninth place.

Freshman Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) had two birdies and 12 pars in route to a 2-over-par, 74. He's currently tied for 34th place overall.

Junior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) had four birdies and three double-bogeys in an up-and-down round. He settled for a 3-over-par, 75, and is tied for 54th place.

Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) shot a 4-over-par, 76, on Saturday.

Competing as an individual, Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) made his spring debut. The sophomore fired a 5-over-par, 77.
