
Matson and Plana Ventosa Secure Victories vs. Fordham

New Providence, N.J. - Senior Michal Matson (Christchurch, New Zealand) and freshman Aina Plana Ventosa (Barcelona, Spain) each won in their singles matches as the Seton Hall women's tennis team took a 5-2 defeat to Fordham Saturday at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness. For both student-athletes, it was their second singles victories of the spring season.
Plana Ventosa took Seton Hall's first victory of the day with a straight sets win over Fordham's Maia Balce, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3 singles. Matson then followed with a grinding three-set win over Valeriya Deminova, 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Freshman Hiba El Khalifi (Casablanca, Morocco) nearly had a third Hall win at No. 4 singles. She took the first set against Avery Aude, lost the second set and then lost a tight tiebreaker, 9-11.Â
The Pirates are headed for spring break next weekend and will face the University of Charleston on Sunday, March 1 in Orlando, Fla.
