
Acevedo Powers Pirates to Seventh Place Finish at Loyola

GOODYEAR, ARIZ. – Junior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) fired a 1-under-par, 71, in the final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to a seventh-place finish at the 2020 Loyola Intercollegiate on Monday.

Ever consistent, Acevedo turned in his third consecutive 71 score on the strength of four birdies and 11 pars in round three. For the tournament, he tied for 13th place among 112 individual golfers with a 3-under-par, 71-71-71-213. Delaware's Roberto Nieves won the individual title at 11-under-par.

It's Acevedo's first career sub-par tournament. Furthermore, he entered the event with six career sub-par rounds.  All three of his rounds in this tournament were under par.

Across the field, scores were very low on Monday. Despite firing a respectable 1-over-par, 289, the Pirates actually fell three spots to a seventh-place finish. For the three-day event, The Hall shot a 4-under-par, 290-281-289-860, which is the fourth-lowest par-72, three-round score in Seton Hall history.

Drake won the team title at 15-under-par. Two additional BIG EAST teams were also competing. Xavier finished at 22-over-par, while DePaul was 27-over-par.

Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) finished his stellar tournament with a 2-over-par, 74, on Monday. The senior finished the event tied for 15th place with a 2-under-par, 70-70-74-214. It's Chalk's second career sub-par tournament and the first since his freshman year.

Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) and Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) finished tied for 34th place at only 2-over-par for the tournament. Tait closed out his tournament with an impressive even-par, 72, while Xie finished with a 3-over-par, 75. Tait completed his tournament with a 2-over-par, 75-71-72-218. Xie was 2-over-par with a 74-69-75-218.

Only one stroke behind Tait and Xie, Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) fired an even-par, 72, on Monday thanks in large part to four birdies. Po was 3-over-par for the tournament with a 76-71-72-219.

Competing as an individual, Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) had the best final round of any Pirate on Monday. The sophomore had four birdies and an eagle on the par-4 No. 10 hole in route to a 3-under-par, 69. For the tournament, he tied Po with a 3-over-par, 77-73-69-219.
