Turning Point
Seton Hall blitzed the Golden Eagles on offense in the first half as Mamukelashvili had a three-point play and Powell connected on a stepback three-pointer as part of a 9-0 run to put the Pirates in front 17-8.
Powell, sophomore Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.), senior Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, Conn.) and junior Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) all knocked down triples in the first half as The Hall went 7-for-12 from long distance led by as many as 12 in the first half before going into the break with a 44-35 lead.
Then The Hall came out with a killer instinct to start the second half, running an alley oop dunk from McKnight to senior Romaro Gill (St. Thomas, Jamaica) and then Gill cleaning up a miss with a put-back dunk. Powell made three free throws, and Mamukelashvili answered a Markus Howard three with one of his own and then hit a tough jumper while drawing contact to put the Pirates on top, 56-38, with 16:37 to play.
Powell gave The Hall its largest lead of the day with another stepback three, making it 74-50 with 11:02 to go.
Marquette made a late run and actually got as close as five, 84-79, but the Pirates made their free throws, and Mamukelashvili finished the game off with a dunk from McKnight.
