New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team battled Connecticut to a very close contest, but came one point short in a 4-3 decision Friday in the Pirates' home opener at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness.
Freshman Aina Plana Ventosa (Barcelona, Spain) had the best performance of the day with a straight sets victory over Elizabeth Kozyi at No. 4 singles, losing only one game out of 13. She now has two wins in her first three singles appearances this spring season.
Senior Minja Gligic also won at No. 2 singles, defeating UConn's Luciana Rabines, and senior Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands) was awarded victory in No. 6 singles after her opponent had to withdraw due to injury. Jansen also teamed with senior Michal Matson (Christchurch, New Zealand) to win at No. 3 doubles.
The Pirates will be back at home Saturday when they host Drexel at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness. The match is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
