Springfield, Mass. - Senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) has been named one of five finalists for the 2020 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Tuesday. Named after Class of 1980 Hall of Famer and 1959 NCAA Final Four Most Valuable Player Jerry West, the annual honor in its sixth year recognizes the top shooting guards in Division I men's college basketball.Â
Powell is joined as a finalist by Mason Jones of Arkansas, Kamar Baldwin of Butler, Ty-Shon Alexander of Creighton and Anthony Edwards of Georgia. The winner of the 2020 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award will be determined by a combination of fan votes and input from the Basketball Hall of Fame's selection committee. Naismith Starting Five Fan Voting presented by Dell Technologies will go live on Friday, March 6 via hoophallawards.com. The winner of the 2020 Jerry West Award will be presented at The College Basketball Awards presented by Wendy's in Los Angeles, CA on Friday, April 10, 2020, along with the other four members of the Naismith Starting Five.

An Associated Press Preseason All-America selection and the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, Powell has lived up to the hype with both his scoring prowess and his incredible leadership. Powell is averaging 21.5 points per game, which ranks 12th in the country and second in the BIG EAST. That number rises to 23.1 points per game when excluding the two games he had to leave early due to injury. He has especially been deadly on the road in BIG EAST play, averaging 27.1 points per game while leading The Hall to a 7-1 mark.
Overall, Powell has been at the forefront of one of the most prolific seasons in Seton Hall history. The Pirates are 21-7 overall and 13-3 in the BIG EAST, clinching at least a share of the program's first conference regular season championship since 1993. Currently, Seton Hall is ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press top 25 poll. The team has 10 NET "Quad 1" wins, a figure that is tied for second-most in the nation, and a combined 15-7 record against "Quad 1+2" teams.
Powell and the Pirates host No. 14 Villanova Wednesday night when he and his three fellow seniors will be honored in a pregame ceremony. Tickets to the 8:30 p.m. game are still available at SHUPirates.com/SHUvsNOVA.
