MIAMI - The Seton Hall women's tennis team was a tiebreaker away from taking the doubles point from Florida International, but the Pirates were unable to prevail and ultimately fell to the Panthers, 4-0, Thursday at the FIU Tennis Courts. The Pirates wrapped up spring break a successful 2-1 on the trip.
The Pirates looked strong in doubles with senior Anniek Jansen (Naarden, Netherlands) and freshman Hiba El Khalifi (Casabalanca, Morocco) earning victory at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 win over Francisca Vergara and Ashley Vielma. The Pirates then had FIU on the ropes at No. 1 doubles as senior Minja Gligic (Belgrade, Serbia) and junior Hermehr Kaur (Redlands, Calif.) pushed Kamila Umarova and Basak Akbas to a tiebreaker that ultimately went FIU's way.
The Pirates, once again playing short at singles, were unable to win a set thereafter.
Seton Hall returns north to host Wagner on Saturday, March 14 at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J. The match is scheduled for 6 p.m.
