Seton Hall Receives 2019-20 NABC Team Academic Excellence Award

Kansas City, Mo. - For the fifth consecutive year, Seton Hall men's basketball's academic success has garnered recognition from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). The Pirates are recipients of the NABC's seventh annual Team Academic Excellence Award for finishing the 2019-20 academic year with a cumulative grade point average above 3.0, the organization announced Thursday.

Seton Hall, which captured a share of the 2020 BIG EAST regular season championship with a 13-5 record, was one of only 15 Div. I programs to both receive this year's award and win at least a share of its conference's regular season championship. In addition, Seton Hall was one of only eight Div. I teams to both receive this award and finish the season in the Associated Press top 25.

The Pirates finished 2019-20 with a 3.215 GPA, which represents an improvement of 0.058 from last year's 3.157.

Under 11th-year head coach Kevin Willard, Seton Hall men's basketball has been successful both on the court and in the classroom. In addition to its five-straight 20-win campaigns and four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, the Pirates have 10 selections to the NABC Honors Court since 2017 and 54 selections to the BIG EAST All-Academic team in Willard's tenure (with 2019-20 recipients yet to be named).
