Providence, R.I. - Despite missing key players and depth due to COVID-19 protocol, the 15th-ranked Seton Hall men's basketball team put together a gutsy effort against No. 21 Providence on Wednesday evening but the Friars proved to be too much as they topped the Pirates, 70-65, at Dunkin' Donuts Center.
Seton Hall (9-2, 0-1 BIG EAST), which hadn't played a game since its 77-63 win over Rutgers on Dec. 12, saw its six-game winning streak snapped.
How It Happened
With 5:59 to play in the first half, sophomore Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) drove to the rim and gave the Pirates a 22-19 lead. But the Friars used a 15-0 run jump in front, 34-22.
PC's lead at halftime was nine, 36-27, and the Friars extended their advantage to as much as 13 in the second half but the Pirates kept chipping away at the deficit.
Late in the game, back-to-back baskets by graduate student Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) sparked a 13-5 run that was capped off by an alley-oop from graduate student Bryce Aiken (Randolph, N.J.) to grad student Alexis Yetna (Paris, France). The run made it a three-point game with 17 seconds left, but the Friars made key free throws down the stretch that iced the game.
