PINEHURST, N.C. – Junior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) shot an even-par, 72, in Tuesday's final round to lift the Seton Hall men's golf team to an eighth-place finish at the 2021 Ross Collegiate Classic.
Â
Ramachandran had a strong day for the Pirates, finishing the suspended second round with a 1-over-par, 73, before firing his 72 in the afternoon's third round. He had six birdies in the final round, and eight overall today if you include his nine holes of the second round. For the three-round event, Ramachandran was the top Pirate competitor, finishing tied for 13th overall with a 5-over-par, 76-73-72-221. He finished nine strokes behind the individual champion, UNC Greensboro's Tommy Lamb.
Â
As a team, the Pirates shaved two strokes off their first-round score, finishing with a 296, in round two, but regressed in round three. The Hall fired a 19-over-par, 307, in the afternoon. For the tournament, the Pirates shot a 37-over-par, 298-296-307-901. Loyola (Md.) won the team title at 11-over-par.Â
Â
Two other BIG EAST opponents were part of the field. The Pirates finished 24 strokes ahead of St. John's and 26 strokes in front of Villanova.
Â
Alex McAuley (Douglas, Isle of Man) turned in his second impressive 1-over-par, 73, in round two, but slipped a bit in round three. The graduate shot a 6-over-par, 78, in the final round, to finish tied for 21st overall. For the tournament, he was 8-over-par with a 73-73-78-224.
Â
After a sub-par first round, senior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had a tougher go in round two and three. He shot a 6-over-par, 78, in round two, and finished the tournament with a 7-over-par, 79, this afternoon. For the event, Acevedo tied for 35th place with a 12-over-par, 71-78-79-228.Â
Â
Only one stroke behind Acevedo, senior Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) finished with a 13-over-par, 79-72-78-229. Tait had a major bounce-back effort in round two, using 14 pars to shoot an even-par, 72. Unfortunately, he finished the tournament with a 6-over-par, 78, to finish the tournament.

Host:Â George Mason University
Location:Â Pinehurst, N.C.
Course:Â Mid Pines Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,633 yards
Dates:Â March 8-9, 2021
THE COURSE:
A rarity among Donald Ross masterpieces, Mid Pines Golf Course remains exactly as the world renowned architect built it in 1921 and impeccably restored by Kyle Franz in 2013. The renovation was honored with GOLF Magazine's Best U.S. Resort Renovation and Restoration of the Year. The course, often characterized as "pure Donald Ross," was designed to fit perfectly into the natural landscape, as was Ross's signature approach.
Â
Mid Pines was not intended to be a daunting challenge for the finest players competing under championship conditions, but was envisioned as a course that would offer friendly competition for members and guests of a private club and resort. However, fanatics and pros have taken note of the perfectly preserved course and Mid Pines has become a classic gem, which has now played host to many national competitions including the 2002 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship.
Â
THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host George Mason, the field features 11 other teams including: Elon, Florida A&M, George Washington, Loyola (Md.), Ohio University, Richmond, St. Bonaventure, UNC Greensboro and William & Mary. Two other BIG EAST competitors, St. John's and Villanova, are also in the field.
Â
UP NEXT:
The Pirates will be back on the course in two weeks for three rounds of golf at The Big Texan at Comanche Trace in Kerrville, Texas, March 22-23.
