Sun Rises Above Bayonet Amateur Championship

SEASIDE, CALIF. – Rising sophomore Alex Sun (Danville, Calif.) fired a 5-under-par, 74-67-70-211, to win the Bayonet Black Horse Amateur Championship by two strokes on Wednesday.

Sun bested the amateur field of 140 golfers, which included 41 competitors from other Universities.Â

Sun had two birdies in route to a 2-over-par, 74, in the opening round on Monday, and trailed the individual leader by nine strokes. Sunday however, he made his move with a 5-under-par, 67, thanks to six birdies and only one bogey. Sun's final round included three more birdies on his way to a 2-under-par, 70, to claim the title by a two strokes over Sacramento State's Ethan Davidson.

Sun's 37 pars for the tournament led all golfers.
