Junior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) had a pair of early kills and The Hall was able to build an early 8-3 lead in set one. Xavier responded, however, with a 6-0 run to take the lead and force an early Seton Hall timeout. A Musketeer attack error cut the Pirates' deficit to 14-13, but Xavier then went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 21-13 advantage. The Hall bounced back with five straight points, and back-to-back aces by Mason Woo (Burbank, Calif.) cut its deficit to 21-18. Xavier regrouped, however, and scored the last four points of the set consecutively, 25-18.
Â
SET 2:
The Hall opened the second set on fire, and a kill by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) gave it an early 7-1 lead. A kill by Laila Wallace (Munster, Ind.) gave the Pirates an 11-6 advantage, but Xavier went on a 6-0 run to grab a 12-11 advantage. A kill by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) tied the set at 14, but again the Musketeers responded with a run. A 8-1 Xavier burst gave them a commanding 22-15 edge, and they never looked back in route to a 25-17 victory.Â
Â
SET 3:
Seton Hall never led in the third set as they fell behind early thanks to a 6-1 Xavier run that gave the Musketeers a 14-6 advantage. Down 20-12, The Hall scored three of the next four points to cut their deficit to 21-15, but Xavier ended the match with four straight points. The Hall had just an .080 attack percentage in the final set, compared to .433 for the Musketeers.
