Newark, N.J. — Senior guard Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and played a team-high 23 minutes as the Seton Hall men's basketball team routed Saint Peter's, 80-44, on Saturday afternoon in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Prudential Center.
Junior Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) tied Dawes with a game-high 13 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the free throw line. Senior Tyrese Samuel (Montreal, Quebec) stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, three rebound, two steals and two blocks.
How It Happened
The two sides went back and forth early and the Peacocks cut their deficit to one, 13-12, on a three-point basket with 13:15 to play in the first half. Seton Hall used an 11-0 run that was capped off with an acrobatic layup by senior Tray Jackson (Detroit, Mich.) that extended the Pirates' lead to 12, 24-12, with 8:04 left.
Saint Peter's finished the first half on a 5-2 run that made it 36-23 at halftime but the Pirates delivered a knockout blow to start the second half. Sparked by a three-pointer made by junior Femi Odukale (Brooklyn, N.Y.) a little over a minute in, Seton Hall used a 13-0 run that ballooned its lead to 50-23 and it held the Peacocks without a second half field goal until nearly nine minutes after halftime.
The Pirates' largest lead was 42, 75-33, and it came on a dunk and a made free throw by Jackson with 4:39 to go in the contest.
