4/25/2022 5:11:00 PM | Men's Golf
The Hall is even-par after 18 holes and trails Marquette by seven strokes.
PINE MOUNTAIN, GA. – Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) and Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) each shot under par to fuel the Seton Hall men's golf team to a fourth-place tie after round one of the BIG EAST Championship at Callaway Gardens.
Tait had only one blemish on an otherwise dazzling round and he got it out of the way immediately. After a bogey on the first hole, he shot three birdies and 14 pars in route to a team-best 2-under-par, 70, on Monday. He's currently tied for sixth place overall.
Marquette's Max Lyons is the individual leader after tying the BIG EAST single-round record with an 8-under-par, 64.
O'Brien was nearly as good as Tait, also bogeying the first hole, but had another on the 15th hole. He had three birdies and 13 pars on his way to a 1-under-par, 71, which has him in a tie for ninth place overall.
As a team, the Pirates shot an even-par, 288, in round one, and are tied with Creighton for fourth place. Marquette leads the field at 7-under-par. Butler is in second at 2-under-par, while Connecticut is third at 1-under-par.
Junior Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) had only pars on his front nine. On the back, he had the first eagle of the tournament for the Pirates, a "3" on the par-5, 11th hole. Xie finished with a 1-over-par, 73, and is currently tied for 20th overall.
Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had birdies on the first hole and the 16th hole to fuel a 2-over-par, 74, on Monday. With 36 holes remaining, the graduate student is tied for 25th place.
Senior Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) was even-par on the front nine to power a 4-over-par, 76, in round one. He's currently tied for 35th place overall.

Location: Pine Mountain, Ga.
Resort: Callaway Resort and Gardens
Course: Mountain View
Course Vitals: Par-72, 7,057 yards

Callaway Resort & Gardens' golf pedigree stretches back more than six decades to 1949, when architect J.B. McGovern, with considerable input from Cason Callaway, designed the first nine holes of the Lake View Course. Completed and opened in 1951, Lake View perfectly captured Mr. Callaway's vision that "playing golf should be a pleasant experience in beautiful surroundings."
The Callaways understood the beauty and importance of golf. Mr. Callaway was on the founding Board of Trustees of the Georgia State Golf Association. Almost from the beginning, the Gardens served as a competition venue, with Jack Key of Columbus, Ga. winning Callaway's first-ever tournament, the 1951 Men's One-day Golf Tourney.
This challenging, but playable layout on the Mountain View course will test your strategic and shot-making abilities, just as it did for PGA Tour pros when it hosted the Buick Challenge from 1991 to 2002. The list of winners is a who's-who of Tour stars, with champions including Davis Love III, David Duval, Steve Elkington, David Toms, and Jonathan Byrd.
