
Pirates Win Fourth Straight with Sweep of Pioneers

FAIRFIELD, CONN. – Junior Bianca Bucciarelli (Carate Brianza, Italy) had a team-high 10 kills as the Seton Hall women's volleyball team swept Sacred Heart, 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-21), for its fourth straight victory.

The Hall improves to 6-1 to start the year for the first time since 2012 with one of their best performances of the year. The Pirates had a season-best .347 attack percentage and a season-low eight total attack errors.

Bucciarelli had 10 kills, only one attack error and an impressive .429 attack percentage. Meanwhile the Pirates' defense was stout again, recording 8.0 team blocks including seven from freshman Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey). Sophomore Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) had 14 digs in only three sets.

Sacred Heart got off to a hot start with eight of the match's first 10 points. Trailing 13-8, The Hall went on a 10-2 run to take an 18-15 advantage. With the score tied at 22, back-to-back kills by Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) and Bucciarelli put The Hall in set point. After the Pioneers cut their deficit to one point, their attack error gave Seton Hall a 25-23 set one victory. Â

Trailing 3-2, the Pirates went on a 7-1 run, and another kill by Bucciarelli gave them an early 9-4 lead in set two. The Pioneers cut The Hall's lead to 13-12, but Seton Hall responded with a 10-4 burst to give it a 23-16 advantage. A kill by Reagan Hopp (Carmel, Ind.) put the Pirates in set point, 24-17, and the ensuing Sacred Heart setting error handed set two to The Hall.

The early goings of set three were close, but the Pirates never trailed, and a Sacred Heart service error gave The Hall a 15-11 advantage. With the score tied at 18, The Hall scored three straight and forced a Pioneers timeout. Out of the break, a kill by Lucas extended the Pirates' lead to 22-18. The Pioneers cut their deficit to 22-21, but The Hall closed out the match with three straight points. Up 23-21, Subasili and Bucciarelli had back-to-back kills to win the set for the Pirates. The Hall had an impressive .462 attack percentage for the third set alone.

Seton Hall will return to action tomorrow with a pair of matches as the Sacred Heart Invitational continues. The Pirates will face Stony Brook at 11:00 a.m. and then Princeton at 2:00 p.m.
