9/24/2022 10:30:00 PM | Men's Golf
ENFIELD, N.H. – Freshman George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) is only one stroke off the individual lead and has led the Seton Hall men's golf team to a second-place standing after round one of the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.
Â
Fricker was brilliant in the best round of his young career, using two birdies, 12 pars and an eagle on the par-5, No. 11 hole to fuel a 1-under-par, 72. He's currently tied for second in the field of 60 golfers with 18 holes left to play tomorrow.
Â
As a team, The Hall shot a 17-over-par, 305, in round one despite chilly temperatures and high wind on Saturday. The Pirates are tied with host Dartmouth for second place entering Sunday's final round. Siena is currently the team leader, seven strokes ahead of Seton Hall.
Â
Junior Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) had a pair of birdies and 10 pars in route to a 4-over-par, 76, on Saturday. He's currently tied for 12th place overall.
Â
Junior Brody Hanley (Lantana, Texas) is currently tied for 18th place after a 6-over-par, 78, in round one.
Â
Both Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) and Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) are tied for 28th place after shooting an 8-over-par, 80, in round one. Xie ran into trouble on the par-3, No. 5 hole, while O'Brien had a double-bogey on the par-4, No. 16 hole.
Â
Two Pirates playing as individuals were solid on Saturday. Freshman David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland) totaled 10 pars in route to a 6-over-par, 78, while classmate Jack Bosworth (Simsbury, Conn.) had three birdies on his way to a 7-over-par, 79.

Location:Â Enfield, N.H.
Course:Â Montcalm Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,829 yards
Dates:Â September 24-25, 2022
Â
THE COURSE:
Montcalm was awarded a Golf Digest award in 2005 as one of the top 10 Best New Private Courses in the country and was again acknowledged in 2007 by the magazine as one of the Best in State. It continually receives rave reviews from members and guests who enjoy the complete privacy and exquisite beauty that is Montcalm. So just what is it that makes this 6,829-yard design so special?
Â
The club itself is remote, and the course moves further away from civilization as soon as you hit your first tee shot. Adherence to the Donald Ross philosophy of maintaining as much of the land's natural character as possible required finding creative solutions for the varied terrain. While the natural layout could easily challenge a PGA professional, playability and challenges are ensured for golfers of all levels.
Â
THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Dartmouth, the small field includes six other schools:Â Binghamton, Cornell, Holy Cross, Middlebury, Saint Joseph's and Siena.
Â
THE FORMAT:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.
Â
THE SCHEDULE:
The teams will play 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
Â
THE RESULTS:
Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament via Golfstat.com. Complete results of each day's events will also be available following competition at SHUpirates.com.
