South Orange, N.J. - Seton Hall men's basketball great Jared Rhoden '22 made his NBA debut for the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night where he scored his first career points against Philadelphia 76ers.
Rhoden played in 12 minutes off the bench and scored two points on 1-of-3 shooting from the field and tallied a rebound in his debut.
Rhoden becomes the 30th Pirate to play in an NBA game and the fifth since 2016, joining Isaiah Whitehead (Brooklyn), Angel Delgado (Los Angeles Clippers), Myles Powell (Philadelphia) and Sandro Mamukelashvili (Milwaukee). Rhoden and Mamukelashvili are both on guaranteed two-way contracts with their respective organizations.
Rhoden was the linchpin for a Seton Hall squad that returned to the NCAA Tournament in 2021-22 and registered its sixth 20-win season in the last seven years. He was named All-BIG EAST First Team, All-Met First Team by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association and was named to NABC and USBWA All-District Teams after finishing sixth in the BIG EAST in scoring averaging 15.5 points per game.
Rhoden is tied for 33rd in program history with 1,270 career points. He is one of only 12 Pirates to log more than 1,200 points and 600 rebounds in a career. He played on three teams that won at least 20 games, two NCAA Tournament teams and was a key contributor for the 2019-2020 squad that won the BIG EAST regular season championship.
Seton Hall head coach Shaheen Holloway coached four of the five Pirates that have reached the NBA over the last six years when he was associate head coach from 2010-18. Holloway recruited Rhoden to Seton Hall when he was associate head coach before accepting the Saint Peter's head coaching job following the 2017-18 season.
