South Orange, N.J. -Â James Enzler, a passionate tennis professional with 15 years of playing experience and six years of coaching experience, has been named Interim Head Coach of the Seton Hall Women's Tennis program, Seton Hall Director of Athletics & Recreation Bryan Felt announced Friday.
Â
Enzler was previously an assistant coach at Seton Hall for three seasons under Kevin McGlynn, who recently resigned as Pirates head coach to pursue a new opportunity in private tennis club management. Enzler is currently serving as a tennis professional and UTR tournament coordinator at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness in New Providence, N.J., where the Pirates host most of their home matches.
Â
"James is a great fit for our tennis program," Felt said. "I love his energy for the game and his passion for teaching and coaching the sport. He left an impact on our program during his time here at Seton Hall as an assistant coach, and we're excited to welcome him back to lead the team."
Â
Enzler was an assistant at The Hall for three seasons, and in 2018-19, he helped the Pirates to one of the program's most successful campaigns in recent time. The team went 13-9 in dual matches, including a 5-4 record against BIG EAST opponents. The 13 victories represent the most Seton Hall's had in a season since 2004-05. With Enzler on staff, two Pirates earned All-BIG EAST honors in 2019.
Â
"I'm ecstatic to be taking on the head coaching position at Seton Hall," Enzler said. "From my time as an assistant from 2018-20, I quickly saw how special of a place Seton Hall is, and I enjoyed working under Kevin McGlynn. He's a fantastic coach and has brought in a great roster of talent both athletically and academically. I'm eager to provide a spark to the team and help our student-athletes achieve success during the season and make a run in the conference tournament. Thank you to Bryan Felt for this tremendous opportunity."
Â
Enzler has served on the Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness staff as a tennis professional since 2018, working with both juniors and adults. He also previously was a tennis instructor at the US Sports Institute in Whitehouse Station, N.J.
Â
A 2016 graduate of Midland University with a degree in elementary education and coaching, Enzler was a four-year varsity tennis player for the Warriors. He earned All-Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) honorable mention in doubles twice, and he was a two-time Scholar-Athlete selection.
Â
Seton Hall, which returned all nine letterwinners from last season's team and had a strong Fall 2022, will commence the Spring 2023 dual meet schedule on Jan. 28 against Binghamton in West Point, N.Y.
