Lewisburg, Pa. – Silvia Alessio (Trieste, Italy) broke the Seton Hall program record in the 3M 6-Dive as the Pirates took part in the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Alessio won the 3M dive with a total score of 337.20, breaking the school record of 326.55 previously set by Taylor Jackson in 2018. In the process, Alessio also broke Bucknell's pool record for 3M six dive. The win was part of another strong showing for Alessio to begin her Seton Hall career as she took the victory in both diving events for the second straight meet.
Alessio's score of 311.30 in the 1M also gave her the victory on the afternoon, finishing ahead of Laura Stavila (Oakland, Calif.) in second place. Stavila's score of 273.10 was good enough to help her qualify for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
The meet kicked off with the Pirates taking third place in the 200 Free Relay. Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.), Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.), Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.) and Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) combined for a time of 1:37.70 in the event. For Heim in particular, this would be the first of her four top-3 finishes on the day, as she would later accomplish the feat in the 500 Free, 100 Fly and 50 Free.
Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) and Amanda Zajdzinski (Mesa, Ariz.) also posted individual victories as part of their strong showings. Waggoner touched the wall first in the 1650 Free with Zajdzinski taking second. Waggoner won the event with a time of 17:12.42 to take the top spot. Zajdsinzki would pick up her victory in the 500 Free, doing so with a time of 5:03.88.
In her second meet with Seton Hall, Mia Sunseri (Wheeling, W. Va.) collected a pair of second-place finishes on the afternoon. The junior was the runner up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.59 while also taking second in the 400 IM in 4:32.13.
The Pirates will host their first dual meet of the season next Saturday as they welcome in Monmouth to Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium at 12 p.m.
