Morgantown, W. Va. – Allie Waggoner (Moorestown, N.J.) capped off a huge week at the WVU Invite on Saturday night, picking up her third victory and fifth school record of the week as the Pirates wrapped up their weekend in Morgantown.
Waggoner's victory came in the 1650 Free, as she touched the wall with a time of 16:28.27 to claim the top spot. The junior clocked a time over three seconds faster than her previous record which came in her win at the BIG EAST Championships this past February. Waggoner's winning time was over 28 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
Waggoner's swim in the mile also saw her record a 1000 Free split of 9:56.82, which also broke her own program record from the BIG EAST Championships. All told, Waggoner took home three victories and set five new program records this week.
Two other Pirates competed in "A" finals on Saturday night. NATALIE HEIM reached the finals of the 100 Free, placing sixth in the race with a time of 51.11. Mia Sunseri (Wheeling, W. Va.), who was one night removed from a stellar effort in the 400 IM on Friday, finished with a time of 2:20.23 in the finals of the 200 Breast.
The Pirates concluded the three-day meet with a fifth-place time in the 400 Medley Relay. Heim, Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.), Josie McCartney (Verona, Wisc.) and Lea Moeller (New Lenox, Ill.) combined for a time of 3:25.37.
The Pirates now enter their winter break before resuming competition at home against UConn on January 13.
