
Pirates Excel on Day One at Bandon Dunes

Three Pirates are 4-over-par and the Pirates are seventh in a talented 18-team field.
BANDON, ORE. – Three Pirates shot a 4-over-par, 76, in Sunday's first round to fuel a strong initial showing for the Seton Hall men's golf team at the Bandon Dunes Championship.

The Pirates find themselves in seventh place in the 18-team field after 18 holes with an 18-over-par, 306. The talent-laden field includes several West Coast powerhouses including Oregon State, Fresno State and No. 28 Oregon. Boise State currently leads the team field after an 8-over-par, 296, on Sunday.

David Lally (Wicklow, Ireland), Wanxi Sun (Danville, Calif.) and Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) all shot a 4-over-par, 76, and are tied for 24th place among 112 individual golfers. All three Pirates had two birdies in their opening round.

Sophomore Joshua Lee (Lantana, Texas), making his non-individual debut, had one birdie and 10 pars in route to a 6-over-par, 78, in round one.

Angus O'Brien (Barwon Heads, Australia) rounded out the lineup with a 13-over-par, 85.

Competing as an individual, sophomore George Fricker (Woodbridge, England) had 14 pars on his way to a 5-over-par, 77.

Bandon Dunes unfolds along pristine native dunes where expansive ocean views are revealed on nearly every hole. The course is completely natural and routed through an environment of indigenous vegetation. Beyond breathtaking scenery lies the game of golf in its truest form. This is a thinker's course. Winds are ever-present, and the varying elements create a new experience each time you play.

THE FIELD:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Idaho, the highly-competitive field includes 16 other teams including:Â Air Force, Boise State, Drexel, Fresno State, James Madison, Long Beach State, Oregon, Oregon State, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle University, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, Utah and Washington State.

THE FORMAT:
Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

THE SCHEDULE:
The field will play three rounds over three days with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. ET each day. The Hall will be paired with golfers from South Dakota and Air Force in round one.
