Sarrias Pro Leads Pirates in Round One at BIG EAST
4/17/2023 5:39:00 PM | Women's Golf
The Hall is in third place after 18 holes of the BIG EAST Championship.
HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – Despite high winds, sophomore Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain) shot a 7-over-par, 79, to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team in round one of the BIG EAST Championship on Monday at Riverton Pointe Country Club.
Â
Sarrias Pro had two birdies and is currently tied for sixth place among all individuals with a 7-over-par, 79, on Monday. Xavier's Emma McMyler currently leads the field at 2-over-par after 18 holes.
Â
Riverton Pointe is one of the more difficult championship courses in recent years and high winds didn't make matters easier for the field on Monday. All six teams shot well over 300 for the round, with the Pirates shooting a 38-over-par, 326. The Hall finds itself in third place, nine strokes behind Georgetown and 22 strokes behind three-time defending champion Xavier.
Â
To put the difficulty the field faced on Monday in perspective, consider that the Pirates shot 38-over-par today. At last year's championship, The Hall finished the three-round event at 38-over-par. Xavier won the title last year at 14-over-par, but was 16-over today.
Graduate student Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) and junior Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy) are currently tied for 15th place after each shooting a 10-over-par, 82. Fouratt had three birdies and a stretch of four straight pars on the back nine to fuel her round. Zavagli had a team-best 10 pars on the round.
Â
Senior Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy) is only one stroke behind her teammates following an 11-over-par, 83. She had two birdies and five pars and is tied for 17th place.
Â
Rounding out the Pirates' lineup, freshman Lara Todorovic (Belgrade, Serbia) shot a 22-over-par, 94, in her first career BIG EAST Championship round.
