
Richmond Posts Triple-Double In Three OT Loss To No. 18 Creighton

Newark, N.J. - Despite just the second triple-double in program history by Kadary Richmond (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and 21-point games from Dre Davis (Indianapolis, Ind.) and Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.), the Seton Hall men's basketball team couldn't overcome No. 18Â Creighton in the second triple overtime game in program history, 97-94, in front of a sold out crowd at Prudential Center on Saturday afternoon.
Richmond's final line was 21 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists, becoming the first Pirate to post a triple-double since Eddie Griffin when Griffin went for 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocks on Dec. 4, 2000 against Norfolk State. Jaden Bediako (Brampton, Ontario) posted his fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocks.
The Pirates (13-6, 6-2 BIG EAST) suffered their first defeat since their road loss at Xavier back on Dec. 23.
How It Happened
The Pirates trailed by four at halftime, 35-31, but the Pirates opened the scoring the second half on a Bediako layup off a set play that kicked off a 13-2 run. The rally put Seton Hall in front, 44-37, giving the Pirates their largest lead of the before a fast break layup by Dylan Addae-Wusu (Bronx, N.Y.) and a jumper by Dawes stretched The Hall's lead to nine, with 13:16 left.
Creighton however would storm back as its next four made field goals came from behind the arc that cut the Bluejays deficit to one, 52-51. An alley-top on its next possession gave Creighton just its second lead of the second half, 53-52, with 8:52 to go in regulation.
The Bluejays were holding on to a six-point lead, 62-56, with 5:28 left when it became the Pirates' time to respond. Another mid-range make by Dawes was followed by a three-point basket by Elijah Hutchins-Everett (Orange, N.J.) cut Seton Hall's deficit to one, 62-61, and it forced Creighton to call a timeout. A three-pointer with 2:47 left pushed the Bluejays lead back up to four but a 6-0 run by The Hall that was finished off by a Richmond layup gave the Pirates their first lead in eight minutes. However, Creighton tied up the game at 67-67 with three seconds left that forced overtime.
The first extra period saw Creighton lead by two possessions with 44 seconds left before a pair of free throws made by Richmond and a layup made by Davis off an offensive rebound tied up the score at 75-75 and it sent the game to a second overtime. The Bluejays once again held a two-possession lead up 83-79 with 26 seconds left, when Dawes went up for a three and was fouled behind the arc. He made all three tries from the stripe that made it a one-point contest and Richmond came up with a steal was fouled on the other end of the floor. Richmond made only one of two free throws that knotted up the score once again, 83-83, and it added five more minutes onto the clock.
A jumper by Richmond and a made three-pointer from the top of the arc by Dawes gave Seton Hall a five-point lead, 88-83, which was the largest lead by either side in the extra sessions. A 7-1 run for Creighton but them back in front by one, 90-89, with under a minute remaining but two made free throws by Richmond gave The Hall the lead once again, 91-90, with 42 ticks left. However, the Bluejays used a back-breaking three, a defensive stand and two key free throws to help the ice game.

- Both sides finished with nearly identical percentages from the floor with the Pirates shooting 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from three and Creighton shooting 43 percent from the floor and 36 percent from beyond the arc.

- 50 of Seton Hall's 94 points came in the paint.

- Saturday was the first triple overtime game for Seton Hall since a 71-69 three-overtime win at Columbia on Feb. 1, 1983.
