New Providence, N.J. - The Seton Hall women's tennis team was solid all evening en route to a sweep of Rider, 7-0, Friday night at Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness. The Pirates did not drop a single set during singles action, their first sweep of the year.
"I'm really proud of everyone's mental focus and energy in singles today," said Seton Hall head coach James Enzler. "As a team we did a great job of staying mentally focused within each match and winning points in an efficient manner."
Seton Hall took the first and third doubles matches with relative ease to take the doubles point. Aina Plana Ventosa and Anastasia Sereda have now won three doubles matches in a row as a tandem after dispatching Laila Fishman and Jett Coetzee, 6-3.
In singles, the Pirates won all 12 sets and didn't lose more than four games in any one set. Sereda set the tone at No. 1, defeating Fishman, 6-4, 6-4. Imogen Brooker improved her spring record to 4-1 after topping Daniela Naves, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2.
Niamh Campbell, in her second match at No. 3, defeated Agnese Ceccarelli, 6-2, 6-4, as she improved to 3-1 in the spring.
Plana Ventosa defeated Coetzee at No. 4, 6-1, 6-3, and she is now 4-0 in the spring. The four wins in a row are the most she's had during the spring and matches her career high.
Hili Kronzon picked up her second singles win of the season, defeating Sofia Gutierrez, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. And at No. 6, Arabella Moen earned her first singles win of the season, knocking off Samantha Killin, 6-3, 6-1.
It's a quick turnaround for the Pirates, who drive to South Williamsport, Pa., in the morning to face Bucknell at 1 p.m.
