South Williamsport, Pa. - Playing its second match in just 18 hours, the Seton Hall women's tennis team battled hard against Bucknell but came up just short to the Bison, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at Central PA Tennis Center. Imogen Brooker and Aina Plana Ventosa remained on a hot streak as both pulled out singles victories.
"We knew doubles was going to be an important point to win, and credit to them [Bucknell], they took care of business and got the doubles point out of the gate," said head coach James Enzler. "We're continuing to play great singles, just needed one more match to fall our way. Really proud of how we fought out there."
Bucknell took all three matches of the doubles portion to immediately take a 1-0 lead. On the singles end, Plana Ventosa was The Hall's first winner, taking No. 4 singles over Tyne Miller, 6-1, 6-4. Plana Ventosa is now 5-0 during the spring season.
The Bison won at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 6, but the Pirates fought their way to two more wins. At No. 2, Brooker defeated Anna Lajos in the third-set tiebreaker, 7-6(4), 4-6, 1-0(6), to improve to 5-1 in spring singles. At No. 5, Aili Hietala captured her second singles victory of the spring, beating Jaycie Mair 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(5)
Seton Hall is back at home Friday night against Stony Brook. The match will commence from Murray Hill Tennis & Fitness at 6:45 p.m.
