4/20/2024 4:05:00 PM | Women's Golf
The Pirates are in fourth place entering round two, eight strokes off the lead.
OKATIE, S.C. – Senior Ginevra Zavagli (Rome, Italy) fired a 2-under-par, 70, to lead the Seton Hall women's golf team to a fourth-place standing after round one of the 2024 BIG EAST Championship at Callawassie Island Golf Club.
Â
Zavagli, the team's lone senior, bogeyed the first hole of the tournament, but that was her lone blemish. Her next 17 holes were brilliant, featuring three birdies and 14 pars in route to her first sub-par round in her fourth and final BIG EAST Championship. It's her sixth career sub-par round overall. Zavagli currently shares the individual lead with Georgetown's Megan Gormley at 2-under-par.
Â
As a team, the fifth-seeded Pirates outplayed their seed. The Hall shot a 12-over-par, 300, and are currently in fourth place. Seton Hall trails the tea leader, Xavier, by eight strokes entering round two. Georgetown is second at 9-over-par and Butler is third, only one stroke ahead of The Hall.
Â
Competing in her first-ever BIG EAST Championship, Renee Rane (New Delhi, India) shot an impressive even-par, 72, and is currently tied for fifth place overall. After two early birdies, Rane chipped in an eagle on the par-5, eighth hole to vault to the top of the leader board. Only two eagles were recorded by the field all day.
Â
Kasumi Tran (Swansea, Wales) also impressed in her first BIG EAST event. The freshman had three birdies in route to a 6-over-par, 78.
Â
Junior Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain) was only 2-over-par on the front nine, but struggled on the back. She finished with an 8-over-par, 80.
Â
Rounding out the Seton Hall lineup, sophomore Anne-Sofie Ekman (Copenhagen, Denmark) carded an 11-over-par, 83.
