
Adler Named All-Tournament; Pirates Fall to Bryant

BOCA RATON, FLA. – Freshman Gwen Adler (Barrington, Ill.) was named to the Florida Atlantic Invitational All-Tournament Team, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Bryant, 3-0 (19-25, 19-25, 19-25), on Saturday.
Bryant never trailed in the first or third sets, and led for the majority of set two. The Hall attacked at a .176 percentage, compared to .300 for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Senna Roberts-Navarro (Honolulu, Hawaii) had a team-best seven kills. Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) collected a team-high 10 digs. Adler had 19 assists, three kills and three digs to cap a strong first collegiate weekend for the freshman.
SET 1:
Seton Hall never led in the opening largely due to Bryant's .312 attack percentage. A kill by Roberts-Navarro cut the Pirates deficit to 8-7, but Bryant scored five of the next six points to grab a 13-8 advantage. Down 20-15, The Hall tallied four of the next five points to get to within two of the Bulldogs, but Bryant closed out the set with four straight points.
SET 2:
The Pirates opened the second set strong and a service ace by Asli Subasili (Tekirdag, Turkey) gave them an early 5-2 lead. Down 10-9, Bryant stormed back with a 6-1 run to grab a 16-10 advantage. Trailing 19-12, The Hall chipped away, and an ace by Nelson brought it to within five points, 21-16. Alas, the Pirates couldn't get closer and dropped the second set, 25-19.
SET 3:
Bryant scored the first seven points of the third set, which led to an early Seton Hal timeout. Trailing 15-10, The Hall scored four straight points, and an ace by Subasili made it a 15-14 set. Clinging to a one-point lead, 16-15, the Bulldogs scored five of the next six points to extend their lead to 21-16. A kill by Grace Turner (La Grange Highlands, Ill.) and an ace by Nelson cut The Hall's deficit to three, but Bryant ended the match with four of the next five points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
The Pirates will return to action next weekend when they make their Walsh Gym debut to host the Seton Hall Classic. The Hall will host Sacred Heart on Friday, NJIT on Saturday and Kent State on Sunday. All three matches will be available for FloSports subscribers.
