NEW YORK, N.Y. – After a 2-0-0 week, senior defender Agustin Resch (Arata, Argentina) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while forward Mikkel Lejbowicz (Farum, Denmark) and goalkeeper Matias Molina (Rosario, Argentina) were named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.
For the second time this season, Resch landed himself Defensive Player of the Week honors after another dominant defensive week. Along the Pirates' backline, the Argentinian led a Pirates defense that held Lehigh to seven shots before he exited the game with The Hall up 4-0 in the 65th minute. He followed that performance with an even more dominant showing against St. John's in a crucial BIG EAST clash, collecting an assist and holding the Red Storm to one shot-on-goal, despite 11 shots, in a 1-0 victory.
After landing on the honor roll last week, Lejbowicz finds himself back there after a three-goal week. In the Pirates' 5-1 win over Lehigh, the sophomore bagged a second-half brace to take over the team lead in goals. In BIG EAST play, he drove home his sixth, and most important, goal of the season in a massive 1-0 win over St. John's in Queens.
Molina produced a history-making week to land himself on the Honor Roll. The senior allowed no goals and recorded four saves against Lehigh, securing the victory before exiting the match in the closing minutes. Against St. John's, with the aid of his elite defense, the Argentinian went the full 90 minutes, recording his program-record-breaking eighth clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 win over the Red Storm.
Seton Hall will play next on Saturday, November 1, when the Pirates travel to Omaha, Neb., to take on the Creighton Blue Jays. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with opening kick set for 5 p.m. EST.
