Seton Hall All-Time vs. NC State: 3-3 (Streak: W1)
NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Seton Hall men's basketball team is set to take part in the Maui Invitational for the second time in program history (2001).
- Seton Hall battled a pair of top-five opponents during its last Maui visit, including a narrow opening round defeat to defending national champions and No. 1 ranked Duke, 80-79.
- The Pirates and Wolfpack last met in the First Round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, where Seton Hall earned a 94-83 victory.
- Seton Hall has won 17 MTE's in program history, most recently claiming the title at the 2018 Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif.
- Despite not playing in the Maui Invitational since 2001, the Pirates made a trip to Hawaii on Dec. 6-7, 2016 to take part in the FS1 Pearl Harbor Invitational, where the Pirates defeated Hawaii (68-57) and California (60-57) in Honolulu.
- The Pirates are 5-0 to open the season for the first time since 2014-15 (started 7-0).
- A win would give Seton Hall's its longest winning streak in the Shaheen Holloway era. The Pirates last won six straight from Feb. 19-March 9, 2022 under former head coach Kevin Willard.
- Seton Hall sophomore guard Trey Parker spent last season at NC State, averaging 4.6 ppg in 27 games.
- Stephon Payne helped guide the Pirates to victory on Tuesday against New Haven, finishing with 13 points and 11 boards in the win.
- Seton Hall sits second in the nation in blocks per game (8.4).
- Freshman Najai Hines has been the leader in rim protection so far this season for The Hall, as his 3.2 blocks per game sits fifth in the nation and second in the BIG EAST.
- Fellow frontcourt mate Stephon Payne ranks third in the conference and 40th in the country in blocks per game (2.2).
- Hines swatted seven shots in Seton Hall's 70-58 win over Monmouth, the most blocks by a Pirate since Ike Obiagu (7) on March 9, 2022.
- Tajuan Simpkins has been the driving force of the Pirate offense, averaging a team-best 13.2 ppg while coming off the bench in all five games.
- Hines recorded his first career double-double last Monday against Fairfield, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
- Hines' double-double came in his third career game, the fastest Pirate freshman to do so since Angel Delgado in 2014 (also his third game).
- Elijah Fisher led all scorers with 21 points on an efficient 8-of-14 shooting from the floor in the win over Wagner on Nov. 7.
- Fisher enters play with 981 career points.
- Seton Hall played five consecutive home games to open the season for the first time since 1981-82.
- Seton Hall welcomes in 11 newcomers to the program to join a group of four returnees, highlighted by sophomores Godswill Erheriene and Jahseem Felton.
- Of those 11 newcomers, 10 players transfer into the program.
- Last season was an outlier in terms of Holloway's performances in conference play, finishing below .500 in league games for just the second time in seven seasons as a head coach.
- Holloway's first two seasons at Seton Hall were the winningest in program history in terms of both overall and BIG EAST wins.
