"We fought tooth and nail for this one," head coach James Enzler said. "This match needed every single player to bring her best, and that's exactly what we did. "After losing doubles, Einess, May and Bella went out and put pressure right back on them, taking that 3-1 lead. After that, Stage [Anastasia Sereda], Tamsin and Paige gave every ounce of effort to pull off the clinch. Especially after losing to that great team last year, our girls did everything to make sure we took it back. Phenomenal job from everyone today."
Niamh Campbell and Tamsin Hart won at No. 2 doubles for the third time this weekend, but the Pirates again dropped the doubles point to fall behind after Hofstra wins at No. 1 and No. 3.
However, the Pirates quickly rebounded to take the lead with a trio of straight-set victories. Isabelle Einess made quick work of Kailyn Ferguson at No. 4, 6-3, 6-0, and she was followed by her namesake, Isabelle May, who defeated Abigail Higgins at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2. Then Arabella Moen topped Mary Madigan in the No. 6 position with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win.
At No. 1, Anastasia Sereda lost her first set to Lea Forste-Dinell, but she rebounded and battled hard to win the second set, 7-5, and then the third, 6-4, for the team win. Paige Wise was the final winner, defeating Amanda Kadiri, 6-4, 7-6(9).
Seton Hall will play a pair of road matches next weekend, heading to Georgetown to battle the Hoyas on Friday and then coming back to New Jersey for a match at Monmouth on Saturday.
